What is Juvederm™?
Juvederm™ Ultra and Ultra Plus, approved in 2006, are hyaluronic acid-based gel
fillers used to correct superficial wrinkles (Juvederm™ Ultra) and deeper facial
folds (Juvederm™ Ultra Plus). Juvederm™ instantly fills in and smooths out the
folds and wrinkles, so that results are visible immediately after treatment.
Juvederm™ Ultra is commonly injected into the small wrinkles around the lips,
and Juvederm™ Ultra Plus works well in the nasolabial folds and downturned mouth
corners.
How long does it last?
Juvederm™ typically lasts four to six months, although this may vary from
patient to patient.
Are Juvederm™ injections
painful?
As with any filler injections, Juvederm™ injections can be painful. A topical
anesthetic cream will be applied before treatment, and Dr. Black sometimes uses
injectable anesthesia (a dental block) if needed to reduce discomfort.
What can I expect after
treatment?
Redness, swelling and bruising can occur after treatment. Most side effects are
mild and resolve in a week or less. An ice pack will be applied to reduce
bruising and swelling.
How do I know which filler
to choose?
Dr. Black will evaluate the areas you wish to treat and your past treatment with
fillers and then determine which filler is likely to give you the best results.
Sometimes a combination of fillers is used to achieve the desired affect.
