Skin Cancer is the most common cancer in the United States.  Almost 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. There has been an alarming rise in the most serious skin cancer, melanoma, in the last 40 years, especially in young people.  Many of these cases are related to tanning bed exposure.
Here’s a reminder about what to watch for on your skin: Non-healing, scaly, crusty, or pimple-type bumps can indicate a basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. Moles that are irregular, multicolored or changing can be a sign of melanoma.  If you have any spots that are new or changing, if you have an extensive history of sun exposure, or a family history of skin cancer, it is important to have a skin exam by a dermatologist.  Dr. Black and Brooke Smart, FNP focus on skin cancer prevention and awareness and thorough screening.
