Alison Black, MD, Brooke Smart, FNP, and Cheryl Sundlov, PA-C are excited to introduce dermaplaning to our practice!
Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that involves gently scraping the surface of your skin with a surgical scalpel blade to remove surface dead skin cells and “peach fuzz” or vellus hair. You will notice smoother, softer, brighter looking skin right away, skin care products will penetrate better, and foundation will go on more smoothly.
Dermaplaning is safe for most skin types and is ideal if you have dull skin, sun damage or dry patches. It should be avoided if you have very sensitive skin (such as many patients with rosacea) or an active acne breakout. To ensure the best and safest results, it should be performed by trained staff under the supervision of a board-supervised dermatologist.
Dermaplaning treatments can also be combined with chemical peels to increase their effectiveness. With or without peels, they can be done at one-month intervals.
