BOTOX® is a purified toxin injected into dynamic wrinkles – wrinkles caused by movement. It temporarily relaxes the overactive muscles that cause the wrinkles, giving a smoother, softer, more relaxed appearance. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet around the eyes, and Dr. Alison Black and Brooke Smart, FNP also often use it to soften horizontal forehead lines.
How long does it last? Is it safe?
BOTOX® has been safely used worldwide to treat a variety of conditions for more than twenty years. Results last about four months, after which the lines gradually recur with movement.
What can I expect? Will my face lose expression?
Dr. Alison Black and Brooke Smart, FNP personally perform all of the injections in our office. BOTOX® injections are carefully tailored to each patient’s facial lines to avoid an expressionless look. The result will reflect a natural look that will subtly turn back the hands of time, while avoiding a “frozen” appearance.
Treatment takes only a few minutes and discomfort is minimal. Within a week you will see a marked decrease in facial expression lines and wrinkles. The most common side effect (though rare, happening in 1-2% of treatments) is temporary drooping of an eyelid or eyebrow.
